Bearbeitungsmodus

Nachdem Sie die Vorbereitungen getroffen haben, können Sie nun beginnen, Inhalte einzupflegen und den Kursraum nach Ihren Vorstellungen anzupassen. Dafür schalten Sie zunächst in den Bearbeitungsmodus, indem Sie auf der Kursstartseite rechts oben auf die Schaltfläche Bearbeiten klicken. Nur im Bearbeitungsmodus ist das Editieren des Kurses möglich.

In diesem Modus sind folgende Symbole sichtbar, um Elemente zu bearbeiten, zu kopieren, zu löschen oder zu verbergen. Außerdem können Sie Dateien auf einfache Weise per Drag & Drop aus einem Ihrer Ordner zu Ihrem Kursraum hinzufügen.

Bearbeitungssymbole
Das Stift-Symbol erlaubt das Umbenennen eines Elements direkt auf der Kursseite.

Mit dem Verschieben-Symbol kann ein Element direkt mit der Maus verschoben werden (Drag & Drop).

Weitere Funktionen sind durch einen Klick auf das Dreipunkt-Symbol verfügbar:

Mit diesem Symbol können Sie den Kursabschnitt hervorheben (als aktuellen Kursabschnitt).

Das Bearbeiten-/Einstellungen-Symbol erlaubt es, das Element zu ändern/zu bearbeiten. Es öffnet sich das Editor-Fenster zum Editieren und Formatieren.

Das offene Auge zeigt an, dass das Element für Teilnehmende sichtbar ist. Mit einem Klick auf das Auge wird das Element für Teilnehmende unsichtbar.

Mit einem Klick auf das Duplikat-Symbol können Sie eine Kopie des ausgewählten Elements erstellen.

Das Symbol mit der Menschengestalt ermöglicht die Zuweisung von Rollen. Durch die Rollenzuweisung in einem Kontext werden alle Fähigkeiten der Rolle übertragen, u.zw. im aktuellen Kontext und in allen nachrangigen Kontexten. Wird z.B. Nutzer/innen die Rolle „Teilnehmer/in“ in einem Kurs zugewiesen, so haben sie diese Rolle auch für alle Aktivitäten und Blöcke innerhalb des Kurses.

Mit dem Löschen-Symbol wird ein Kurselement aus dem Kurs gelöscht.

Texteditor

Der Texteditor steht Ihnen bei der Bearbeitung von formatierten Texten wie Kursabschnitte, Beschreibungen sowie bei Textfeldern und Textseiten zur Verfügung. Ähnlich wie in einem Textverarbeitungsprogramm können Sie Ihren Text mithilfe zahlreicher Funktionen formatieren sowie Mediendateien (Bilder, Video- und Audiodateien) einbinden und Webseiten verlinken.

Auf der Lernumgebung stehen Ihnen zwei verschiedene Editoren zur Verfügung.

Editor TINYMCE

Ein weiterer Editor ist der Tinymce aus früheren Moodle-Versionen.

Mit Klick auf das Symbol Toolbar umschalten werden Ihnen alle verfügbaren Funktionen dargestellt.

Symbole im EDITOR

Einen Link in den Text einfügen

Möchten Sie im Text auf Webseiten verweisen, markieren Sie dafür den zu verlinkenden Text und klicken auf das Symbol Link oder Ctrl+k. Im sich öffnenden Popup-Fenster stellen Sie die Angaben zur Webseite ein.

Unter URL eingeben fügen Sie die Adresse der gewünschten Webseite (per copy&paste) bzw. die gewünschte Datei ein. Es ist ratsam, die Option In neuem Fenster öffnen zu wählen.

Mit Link aktualisieren wird der Link im Text aktiviert.

Ein Bild in den Editor einfügen

Um Ihre Inhalte visuell zu verstärken und die Lernförderlichkeit in Ihrem Kurs zu erhöhen, bietet es sich an, auch Bilder in den Kursinhalten zu integrieren und somit Texte ansprechender zu gestalten.

Klicken Sie dafür im Editor auf das Symbol Bild einfügen/bearbeiten.

Mit einem Klick auf Auswählen gelangen Sie zur Dateiauswahl und können die gewünschte Datei hochladen. Auch Verlinkungen auf Bilder im Internet sind über URL eingeben möglich. Achten Sie bei allen urheberrechtlich geschützten Materialien auf die Quellenangabe und die Lizenzen.

Als nächstes können Sie die Größe ändern. Mit der Aktivierung der Radiotaste bei Originalgröße wird das ursprüngliche Seitenverhältnis und die Größe beibehalten. Mit Speichern speichern Sie alle Eingaben. Das Bild erscheint im Editortext.

Den Kursraum mit Inhalten befüllen

Nachdem Sie die Vorbereitungen in Ihrem Kurs getroffen haben, können Sie nun beginnen, Inhalte einzupflegen und den Kursraum nach Ihren Vorstellungen anzupassen. Dafür schalten Sie zunächst in den Bearbeitungsmodus.

Das Dateisystem in Moodle

Moodle unterscheidet verschiedene Speicherorte für Ihre Dateien, auf die Sie zugreifen können, wenn Sie eine Datei hinzufügen.

Dateien in Kursen: Dort werden alle Dateien abgespeichert, die Sie direkt in einen Kurs hochladen. Die Dateien werden in Ordnern mit dem jeweiligen Kursnamen unter Dateien in Kursen abgespeichert.
Letzte Dateien: Hier werden Ihnen die letzten 50 Dateien angezeigt, die Sie verwendet haben, unabhängig vom Speicherort.
Meine Dateien: Dies ist Ihr persönlicher Speicherplatz in Moodle, auf den sonst niemand zugreifen kann. Hier können Sie Dateien abspeichern, die Sie in mehreren Kursen verwenden möchten. Löschen Sie die Datei in einem Kurs, ist sie dennoch in anderen Kursen und im Ordner Meine Dateien noch verfügbar.

 Es empfiehlt sich, zunächst alle Dateien, die Sie für Ihre Kurse benötigen in einem oder mehreren Ordern in Meine Dateien zusammenzustellen. Dies erspart Ihnen die Suche auf Ihrer Computerfestplatte.
Um einen schnellen Zugriff auf Ihre Dateien zu erhalten, können Sie den Block Meine Dateien zum Dashboard hinzufügen.

Klicken Sie zunächst auf Ihren Namen in der Kopfleiste und gehen dann auf Meine Dateien. Oder Sie verwenden den Block Meine Dateien auf dem Dashboard und klicken auf Meine Dateien verwalten….

Zum Hinzufügen von Dateien wählen Sie das -Symbol. Es öffnet sich das Fenster Dateiauswahl. Hier können Sie auf mehrere Datenquellen zurückgreifen, z.B. auf Ihren lokalen Rechner (Option Datei hochladen). Mit der Schaltfläche Choose File können Sie Ihre Festplatte durchsuchen. Bestätigen Sie die Datei mit Datei hochladen. Alternativ ziehen Sie die gewünschten Dateien per Drag & Drop in das vorgesehene Feld ().

Sinnvoll ist es, im Vorfeld Verzeichnisordner für die verschiedenen Kurse anzulegen (). Bestätigen Sie alle Dateiuploads mit der Schaltfläche Änderungen speichern. Wenn Sie auf ein Verzeichnis klicken, werden Ihnen die hochgeladenen Dateien angezeigt. Über das Symbol () erhalten Sie verschiedene Optionen zum Bearbeiten wie umbenennen, ZIP-Datei erstellen, löschen, Pfadwechsel.

Dateien in den Kursraum einstellen

Sie haben mehrere Möglichkeiten, Dateien in Ihrem Kurs für Ihre Studierenden zur Verfügung zu stellen.

Variante 1: Eine oder mehrere Dateien direkt per Drag & Drop auf die Kursoberfläche einstellen

Wenn Sie Ihre Lehrmaterialien in Ihren Kursraum einstellen möchten, müssen Sie zunächst in den Bearbeitungsmodus schalten.

Die einfachste Möglichkeit, ein Skript oder andere Dateien (PDF, Powerpoint, Word, Grafik…) in den Kursraum laden, ist die Möglichkeit per Drag & Drop. Öffnen Sie den entsprechenden Ordner auf Ihrem Rechner und ziehen Sie die Datei an die gewünschte Stelle im Kurs.

Die Datei wird direkt hochgeladen und steht als Arbeitsmaterial mit dem entsprechenden Dateisymbol im Kursraum zur Verfügung.

Mit dem Stift-Symbol können Sie den angezeigten Namen der Datei nachträglich anpassen. Mit dem Drei-Punkte-Symbol können Sie weitere Änderungen vornehmen.

Fügen Sie eine Grafik (.jpg-, .gif-, .bmp-, .png-Format) auf diese Weise ein, werden Sie gefragt, ob Sie diese als Datei einbinden wollen oder direkt als Bild auf der Kursoberfläche.

Mithilfe der Drag & Drop-Funktion können Sie auch mehrere Dateien gleichzeitig in den Kursraum hochladen. Markieren Sie diese im entsprechenden Ordner und verschieben Sie diese wie oben beschrieben in den gewünschten Themenbereich.

Die Dateien werden als Letzte Dateien gespeichert, Sie können auch bei der Erstellung von anderen Kursen auf diese zurückgreifen.

Variante 2: Dateien hinzufügen über Aktivität oder Material anlegen

Um eine Datei hochzuladen, schalten Sie zunächst in den Bearbeitungsmodus. Klicken Sie auf die horizontale Trennlinie mit Einfügefunktion:

Im Bearbeitungsmodus erscheint in jedem Abschnitt unten die Schaltfläche Aktivität oder Material anlegen . Mit einem Klick darauf erhalten Sie im sich öffnenden Fenster eine Übersicht über die verschiedenen Möglichkeiten in Moodle. Sie können den Kursraum mit Materialien (statische Inhalte) füllen und die Studierenden durch verschiedene Aktivitäten kollaborativ und kommunikativ arbeiten lassen. Über den Info-Button erhalten Sie hilfreiche Beschreibungstexte.

Wollen Sie nur eine Datei in Form eines Skripts oder einer Präsentation hochladen, können Sie dies über Datei einstellen. Möchten Sie den Studierenden mehrere Dateien strukturiert hochladen, bietet es sich an, ein sog. Verzeichnis, einen Dateienordner anzulegen.

Datei hinzufügen

Geben Sie zunächst einen Namen für die Datei ein. Der Name wird im Kursraum angezeigt. Eine Beschreibung kann auch wahlweise eingetragen werden.

Soll diese Beschreibung im Kurs angezeigt werden, aktivieren Sie entsprechend das Häkchen.
Ziehen Sie die gewünschte Datei per Drag & Drop in das Feld bei Dateien auswählen.
Unter Darstellung haben Sie verschiedene Anzeigemöglichkeiten, ob die Datei z.B. Als Popup-Fenster angezeigt werden soll.

Soll die Datei für Ihre Kursteilnehmende noch nicht verfügbar sein, stellen Sie in den Weiteren Einstellungen bei Verfügbarkeit auf Teilnehmer/innen verborgen.

Bestätigen Sie abschließend Ihre Eingaben durch Speichern und zum Kurs oder Speichern und anzeigen.

Verzeichnis hinzufügen

Wollen Sie mehrere Dateien strukturiert hochladen, bietet es sich an, im Bearbeitungsmodus unter Aktivität oder Material anlegen bei Arbeitsmaterial die Option Verzeichnis () zu wählen.

Die Schritte bei Allgemeines und Weitere Einstellungen entsprechen den Einstellungen bei Datei hinzufügen.

Ziehen Sie unter Inhalt die gewünschten Dateien (auch Zip-Dateien) per Drag & Drop in das Feld bei Dateien auswählen. Mit dem Symbol Verzeichnis erstellen () können Sie Unterordner einfügen. Entscheiden Sie unter Verzeichnisinhalt anzeigen, ob das Verzeichnis und die einzelnen Dateien direkt auf der Kursoberfläche angezeigt werden sollen.

Option Verzeichnisinhalt anzeigen:

Auf separater Seite + Unterverzeichnis aufgeklappt anzeigen: Dateien werden erst mit Klick auf das Verzeichnis auf einer Unterseite sichtbar.
Auf der Kursseite: Dateien werden auf der Kursoberfläche sichtbar.

Ein schnellerer Weg (mehrere Dateien per Zip-Datei hochladen)

Sie können im Bearbeitungsmodus auch eine Zip-Datei per Drag & Drop auf die Kursoberfläche ziehen und damit hochladen.

 Hinweis: Bitte speichern Sie unter Windows einen Ordner als .zip-Datei, nicht als .7-zip. Mit .7-zip funktioniert das Entpacken in Moodle nicht. 
Windows: Senden an „ZIP-komprimierter Ordner“

Wählen Sie im sich öffnenden Fenster die Option Dateien entpacken und Verzeichnisse anlegen und Hochladen. Über das Bearbeiten-Feld stehen Ihnen anschließend die Bearbeitungsoptionen zur Verfügung.

Moodle stellt verschiedene Arten von Arbeitsmaterialien bereit, die Kursleiter/innen in ihrem Kurs hinzufügen können.

Besonderes Forum: Ankündigungen

Sie können über Moodle Nachrichten an alle Studierenden, die in einem Kurs eingeschrieben sind, senden. Dafür eignet sich am besten das Forum „Ankündigungen“, das in jedem Kursraum bereits vorhanden ist. Aus diesem Forum erhalten die eingeschriebenen Teilnehmenden auch automatisch diese Nachricht per E-Mail. Um eine Nachricht an alle Studierenden im Kurs zu schreiben, gehen Sie im entsprechenden Kursraum folgendermaßen vor:

Klicken Sie zunächst auf die Aktivität Ankündigungen.
Klicken Sie auf den grauen Button Neues Thema hinzufügen (roter Kreis)
Schreiben Sie in das leere Feld rechts neben „Betreff“ den Titel der Ankündigung (roter Kreis 1)
Verfassen Sie im Feld rechts neben „Mitteilung“ den Text für die Ankündigung (roter Kreis 2)
Klicken Sie auf den grauen Button Beitrag absenden (roter Kreis 3) - Der Beitrag wird innerhalb der nächsten 30 Minuten an die Kursteilnehmenden verschickt.
Möchten Sie, dass die Ankündigung sofort ohne Verzögerung verschickt wird, klicken Sie auf Erweitert und aktivieren Sie den Haken bei Ohne Verzögerung senden

Die Ankündigung erscheint nun im Forum Ankündigungen und wird auch standardmäßig per E-Mail an alle im Kurs eingeschriebenen Personen versendet.
Wichtiger Hinweis: Im Forum Ankündigungen haben nur Sie als Kursleitung Schreibrechte. Teilnehmende haben lediglich Leserechte und können nicht auf Ihre Beiträge antworten. Sollen auch Ihre Teilnehmenden miteinander kommunizieren und ein Forum nutzen, müssen Sie die Aktivität Forum anlegen (Anleitung)

Edit mode

After completing the preparations, you can now begin adding content and customizing the course space according to your preferences. To do so, first switch to editing mode by clicking the Edite mode button at the top right of the course homepage. Editing the course is only possible in editing mode.

In this mode, the following icons are visible to edit, copy, delete, or hide elements. In addition, you can easily add files to your course space via drag & drop from one of your folders.

Editing symbols
The Pencil icon allows you to rename an element directly on the course page.

The move icon allows an element to be moved directly with the mouse (drag & drop).

Additional functions are available by clicking the three-dot icon:

This icon allows you to highlight the course section (as the current course section).

The Edit settings icon allows you to change/edit the element. It opens the Editor window for editing and formatting.

The open eye indicates that the element is visible to participants. Clicking the eye makes the element invisible to participants.

Clicking the duplicate icon allows you to create a copy of the selected element.

The icon with the human figure allows the assignment of roles. When roles are assigned in a context, all capabilities of the role are transferred, i.e. in the current context and all subordinate contexts. For example, if users are assigned the role „Student“ in a course, they will also have this role for all activities and blocks within the course.

The delete icon removes a course element from the course.

Text editor

The text editor is available when editing formatted text such as course sections, descriptions, as well as text fields and text pages. Similar to a word processing program, you can format your text using numerous functions, embed media files (images, video and audio files), and link websites.

Two different editors are available in the learning environment.

Clicking the Toggle toolbar icon displays all available functions.

Icons in the EDITOR

Insert a link into the text

If you want to link to websites within the text, select the text to be linked and click the Link icon or press Ctrl+k. In the popup window that opens, configure the website settings.

Under Enter URL, insert the address of the desired website (via copy & paste) or the desired file. It is recommended to select the option Open in new window.

Click Create link to activate the link in the text.

Insert an image into the editor

To visually enhance your content and increase learning effectiveness in your course, it is recommended to integrate images into the course content, making texts more appealing.

In the editor, click the Insert image icon.

By clicking Browse repositories, you will be taken to the file picker where you can upload the desired file. Linking to images on the internet is also possible through add via URL. When using copyrighted materials, be sure to observe source attribution and licensing requirements.

Next, you can change the Size. Activating the radio button for Original size preserves the original aspect ratio and size. Click Save to store all entries. The image will then appear in the editor text.

Filling the course space with content

After completing the preparations in your course, you can now begin adding content and customizing the course space according to your preferences. To do so, first switch to edit mode.

The file system in Moodle

Moodle distinguishes between different storage locations for your files, which you can access when adding a file.

Server files: All files that you upload directly into a course are stored here. The files are saved in folders named after the respective course under Server files.
Recent files: This area shows the last 50 files you have used, regardless of their storage location.
Private files: This is your personal storage space in Moodle, which no one else can access. Here you can store files that you want to use in multiple courses. If you delete a file in one course, it will still be available in other courses and in the Private files folder.

 It is recommended to first collect all files you need for your courses in one or more folders in Private files. This saves you from searching through your computer’s hard drive.
To gain quick access to your files, you can add the Private files block to the dashboard.

First, click on your name in the header bar and then select Private files. Alternatively, use the Pivate files block on the dashboard and click Manage private files….

To add files, select the icon. The File picker window opens. Here you can access several data sources, e.g. your local computer (option Upload a file). Using the Choose File button, you can browse your hard drive. Confirm the file with Upload this file. Alternatively, drag and drop the desired files into the designated field ().

It is useful to create directory folders for different courses in advance (). Confirm all file uploads using the Save changes button. When you click on a directory, the uploaded files will be displayed. Using the icon (), you will find various editing options such as rename, create ZIP file, delete, change path.

Adding files to the course space

There are several ways to make files available to your students in your course.

Option 1: Add one or more files directly to the course interface via drag & drop

If you want to add your teaching materials to the course space, you must first switch to edit mode.

The easiest way to upload a script or other files (PDF, PowerPoint, Word, graphics…) to the course space is via drag & drop. Open the corresponding folder on your computer and drag the file to the desired location in the course.

The file is uploaded directly and made available in the course space as resource material with the corresponding file icon.

Using the Pencil icon, you can subsequently adjust the displayed file name. Using the three-dot icon, you can make further changes.

If you insert an image (.jpg, .gif, .bmp, .png format) in this way, you will be asked whether you want to embed it as a file or display it directly as an image on the course interface.

Using the drag & drop function, you can also upload multiple files to the course space at the same time. Select them in the corresponding folder and move them into the desired topic area as described above.

The files are saved as Recent files, and you can also reuse them when creating other courses.

Option 2: Add files via creating an activity or resource

To upload a file, first switch to editing mode. Click on the horizontal divider with insert function:

In editing mode, the button Add an activity or resource appears at the bottom of each section. Clicking on it opens a window with an overview of the various options in Moodle. You can fill the course space with materials (static content) and enable students to work collaboratively and communicatively through various activities. Helpful description texts are available via the info button .

If you only want to upload a single file such as a script or presentation, you can do this via File. If you want to upload multiple files in a structured way, it is recommended to create a so-called Directory, i.e. a file folder.

First, enter a Name for the file. This name will be displayed in the course space. A Description can optionally be added.

If this Description should be displayed in the course, activate the corresponding checkbox.
Drag the desired file via drag & drop into the field under Select files.
Under Appearance, you have various display options, e.g. whether the file should be shown As a pop-up window.

If the file should not yet be available to course participants, set Availability to Hide on course page under Common module settings.

Finally, confirm your entries by selecting Save and return to course or Save and display.

Add directory

If you want to upload multiple files in a structured way, it is recommended to select the Directory option () under Folder in Add an activity or resource while in editing mode.

The steps under General and Additional settings correspond to those described under Add file.

Under Content, drag the desired files (including ZIP files) via drag & drop into the field under Files. Using the Create folder icon (), you can add subfolders. Under Display folder contents, decide whether the directory and individual files should be displayed directly on the course interface.

Option Display folder contents:

On a separate page and Show subfolders expanded: Files become visible on a subpage after clicking the directory.
Inline on a course page: Files are visible directly on the course interface.

A faster way (upload multiple files via ZIP file)

In editing mode, you can also drag and drop a ZIP file onto the course interface to upload it.

 Note: Under Windows, please save a folder as a .zip file, not as a .7-zip file. Moodle cannot unpack .7-zip files.
Windows: Send to “Compressed (zipped) folder”

In the window that opens, select the option Unzip files and create folder and click Upload. You can then access the editing options via the Edit field.

Moodle provides various types of resources that course leaders can add to their course.

Special Forum: Announcements

You can use Moodle to send messages to all students enrolled in a course. The Forum „Announcements“, which is already available in every course space, is best suited for this purpose. Messages posted in this forum are also automatically sent to enrolled participants by email. To write a message to all students in the course, proceed as follows:

First, click on the Announcements Forum.
Click on the grey Add discussion topic button (red circle)
In the empty field next to „Subject“, enter the title of the announcement (red circle 1)
Enter the announcement text in the field next to „Message“ (red circle 2).
Click the grey Post to forum button (red circle 3) – the post will be sent to course participants within the next 30 minutes.
If you want the announcement to be sent immediately without delay, click Advanced and activate the checkbox Send forum post notifications with no editing-time delay.

The announcement will now appear under the „Discussion“ in Announcements Forum and will also be sent by email by default to all persons enrolled in the course.

Important notice: In the forum Announcements only you as the course instructor have writing permissions. Participants only have read permissions and cannot reply to your posts. If your participants are also supposed to communicate with each other and use a forum, you must create the activity Forum (Instructions)

Filling the Course Room with Content

Once you have set up your course, you can start adding content and customizing the course room to your needs. To do this, first switch to the Editing Mode.

The File System in Moodle

Moodle differentiates between various storage locations for your files, which you can access when adding a File.

Files in Courses: This is where all files uploaded directly to a course are stored. These files are organized into folders named after the respective course under Files in Courses.
Recent Files: This section displays the last 50 files you have used, regardless of their storage location.
My Files: This is your personal storage space in Moodle, accessible only by you. Here, you can store files that you want to use in multiple courses. Deleting a file in one course does not remove it from other courses or from the My Files folder.

 It is recommended to first gather all the files you need for your courses in one or more folders under My Files. This will save you the hassle of searching through your computer’s hard drive.
To quickly access your files, you can add the My Files block to your dashboard.

Click on your name in the top bar and go to My Files, or use the My Files block on the dashboard and click Manage My Files….

To add files, click the icon. This opens the File Picker window. Here, you can access multiple file sources, such as your local computer (Upload a File option). Use the Choose File button to browse your hard drive. Confirm the file by clicking Upload this file. Alternatively, drag and drop the desired files into the designated field ().

It’s useful to create directories for different courses in advance (). Confirm all file uploads by clicking Save changes. When you click on a directory, the uploaded files will be displayed. Using the icon () you can access options like rename, download as ZIP file, delete, change path.

Adding Files to the Course Room

You have several options for making files available to your students in the course.

Option 1: Directly Upload One or More Files via Drag & Drop

If you want to upload teaching materials to your course room, you first need to switch to Editing Mode .

The simplest way to upload a script or other files (PDF, PowerPoint, Word, graphic…) to the course room is to use the Drag & Drop method. Open the relevant folder on your computer and drag the file to the desired location in the course.

The file will be uploaded directly and will appear as a resource with the corresponding file icon in the course room.

You can rename the displayed file name later using the pencil icon. You can make further changes using the three-dot icon.

If you upload an image (.jpg, .gif, .bmp, .png), you’ll be asked whether to embed it as a file or display it directly as an image in the course room.

With the Drag & Drop function, you can also upload multiple files at once. Select them in the folder and move them to the desired topic area as described above.

The files will be saved under Recent Files, and you can reuse them when creating other courses.

Option 2: Add Files via „Add an Activity or Resource“ === To upload a file, switch to Edit Mode. Click on Add an Activity or Resource:

In Edit Mode, the „Add an Activity or Resource“ button appears at the bottom of each section. Clicking on it will open a window displaying various options in Moodle. You can fill the course room with materials (static content) and let students work collaboratively and communicatively through different activities. Use the info button to get helpful descriptions.

If you just want to upload a file, such as a script or presentation, you can do so via File. If you want to upload multiple files in a structured way, it’s advisable to create a Folder.

Adding a File

First, enter a name for the file. The name will be displayed in the course room. Optionally, you can also enter a description.

To display this description in the course, activate the corresponding checkbox.
Drag and drop the desired file into the Select files field.
Under Display, you have several options, such as displaying the file as a popup window.

If you don’t want the file to be available to your course participants yet, set Visibility under Other settings to Hidden from participants.

Finally, confirm your entries by clicking Save and return to course or Save and display.

Adding a Folder

If you want to upload multiple files in a structured way, it’s advisable to create a folder under „Add an Activity or Resource“ in Edit Mode. Under Resources, select the Folder option ().

The steps under General and Other settings match those under Add a File.

Drag and drop the desired files (including ZIP files) into the Select files field under Content. You can add subfolders by clicking on the Create folder icon () Decide under Display folder content whether the folder and individual files should be displayed directly on the course page.

Option Display folder content:

On a separate page + show subfolder expanded: Files are only visible after clicking the folder, which opens a separate page.
On the course page: Files are visible directly on the course page.

A Faster Way (Upload Multiple Files as a ZIP File)

In Edit Mode, you can also upload a ZIP file via Drag & Drop to the course page.

 Note: Please save a folder as a .zip file in Windows, not as .7-zip. The .7-zip format cannot be unpacked in Moodle.
Windows: Send to "ZIP-compressed folder."

In the window that opens, select the option Unpack files and create folders and click Upload. You can then access editing options through the Edit field.

Downloading Files

Your course instructors provide the relevant course materials in the Moodle course room. You can download these there. Click on the linked file and save it to your computer or drive.

Important notice: We would like to draw your attention to the copyright of the materials. It is not permitted to share course materials with third parties outside the circle of participants of the course.

Participating in Activities

In addition to providing scripts, Moodle courses may also offer activities from instructors that allow you to participate collaboratively or communicatively in the course, or complete assignments online. Some activities are introduced here.

1. FORUM: Writing a Forum Post

In the Moodle course rooms, you can also communicate with your classmates and instructors outside of class times, discuss specific topics, ask questions, and exchange files. Assignments are often given through the Forum activity. However, note that you cannot reply directly in the course to posts your instructor makes in the Forum „Announcements“ (at the top of the course).

If there is another forum in the course room, click the link to go to the Forum. If posts already exist, they will be listed chronologically. You can either Reply to an existing post or Add discussion topic.

In the text editor that opens, you can write your post under Message. The Subject will appear as the Discussion in the forum overview and as the subject line in the sent email.

To attach files, use Attachment to upload the desired file. Submit your post using the Post to forum button.

2. Participating in a POLL

For group assignments or allocation of presentation topics, a Poll is often set up using the activity Choice. Select an option and confirm your choice with Save my choice.

3. Participating in FEEDBACK

Similar to a Poll, participation in the Feedback activity works in the same way. Click the button Answer the questions, answer the questions, and submit your responses with Submit your answers.

4. Submitting an ASSIGNMENT

Your instructor can assign tasks using the Assignment activity, which you must complete, often within a specific period. Typically, you create a file and upload it. Free text entries are also possible.

Click on the Assignment and then on Add submission. Upload your solution file under File submissions. You can simply drag & drop the file into the submission field. Finally, click Save changes. Depending on your instructor’s settings, you may be allowed to resubmit your assignment (Edit submission). You can also leave a Comment under Submission comments.

For the Online text assignment type, you can enter your solution directly in the text editor. Save your input with Save changes. You will be notified when your instructor has provided a grade and feedback.

5. Participating in a QUIZ

With the Quiz activity, instructors provide the opportunity to check your knowledge and receive immediate feedback on quiz questions. Click on the relevant Quiz and then on Attempt quiz. Answer the questions and click Next page until you have completed the quiz, or Previous page to go back.
Finally, click Submit all and finish. Once submitted, you can no longer edit your answers. You will then receive a results overview and can Finish review.
